SUPPLIES

All you really need in the way of supplies to help your child learn at home is a great stick and some sand to write in or a stub of pencil and a scrap of paper. Add a library card and you're good!

But if you're like me, and love you some good office supplies, hands-on manipulatives, learning tools and incentives - I've got you covered!

HANDS-ON MANIPULATIVES

Manipulatives are physical objects like blocks, magnetic letters, or counters that you can touch and move around to help you understand a lesson. Using hands-on items takes a different part of the brain, and helps a learner grasp new ideas more easily.

LEARNING TOOLS

Explore the world!

Fancy up your geology studies with a rock polisher:
I love these! They light up and make noise when the electrical circuit is closed:

Real-life Experiences

Kids can use microphones to practice reading, give speeches, and of course, rehearse their singing.

TRACKING GOALS

Move a colored ball into the corresponding feather for each correct answer. Celebrate when all the balls are in their feathers. Multisensory and soothing.

INCENTIVES

Incentives provide an extra reason to do work that isn't yet intrinsically motivating. Looking forward to an incentive gives a hands-on picture of progress towards a goal, and adds a spark of fun to shake up boredom.

Incentives don't have to be things, and don't have to be purchased. Special time, an outing, an extra privilege like a later bedtime or a bit more screen time make great rewards.

For times when you want to spice things up with some hands-on incentives, below you'll find a list of treats I've had fun using.
